Is it possible to re-install my Mac's OS?

I think my MacBook Air was infected when I was upgrading an app. I can't reset the Homepage in Safari and I've been repeatedly redirected when clicking on some links.

This computer has a very basic configuration and I don't keep any data on the storage drive. We really use it just as a netbook. However, I want to regain control of my computer and I thought I might simply reinstall the operating system.

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!
