Help!! iMac (OS 10.7.5) won't stop indexing!

It's slowing everything down and I can't search while it's indexing.

What to do? If I shut it off, I won't be able to search at all.

I can't uninstall programs I don't want and has slowed my computer down when searching I have to stop and restart.

Mac isn't doing themselves favors with these terrible new programs.

Strange, works fine for me on Mavericks, El Capitan, and Sierra.
