The surge of power can destroy your router and damage your computer's wifi equipment. Can you access the wifi with your smart phone? If so that will show that the router is working. If not try using public wifi in some other place. If you use a laptop you can try it in a public place like the library.

What I am trying to explain is basic trouble shooting. With multiple devices, in this case, router and computer, it is necessary to begin a process of elimination. If your computer wifi is the culprit you can get a wifi dongle that plugs into a USB port.
