Bought a new 13 Inch macbook and apple tv. The apple tv arrived today
When it asks for apple ID do they mean my name or my email? My email is my name no spaces@att.net ...... When I boot up the old MacBook I just see my name, space between first and last ....Then I type in the password. Apple TV says I entered wrong password. I did not. So perhaps I don't understand what my apple ID is ?
Assuming I get this right after the new mac arrives, does my iPhone iOS6 get everything on it streamed to the tv ....like a mountain lion Mac is supposed to do ?

(68,644 posts)Though I understand the potential confusion, I probably have three different Apple IDs generated over time.
For me, right now, it's the same one I use for iTunes, the one I have associated with a Credit Card for charges for movies and songs, etc.
Hope this helps.

(2,335 posts)I went on iTunes and bought a song just to check. And it does start with "apple ID email" and then asks for the password. So I think you are right. The apple ID is probably my email But I'm no longer doing anything with the Apple TV until the new MacBook arrives and I set that up firsr ....Just to be safe

(20,886 posts)I think I have three of them for different devices, at least one linked to an e-mail that is no longer valid. Drives me nuts.

(2,335 posts)When the new Mac arrives can I just sign in as myself. Old ID. Old password ? I don't want data migrated over from old Mac
Try no to create new IDs.

(2,335 posts)That's it. So do I still have to use setup assistant to bring itunes over ( along with the other things I don't want ) ? Or can I just make sure all the songs I want are on my phone and then sync the phone after the new Mac is up and running ?
The only reason I am reluctant to use setup assistant is that it will copy Logic 8 and a boatload of logic data into the new Mac and I want the new Mac free for logic x..... When it comes out

(20,886 posts)For various reasons, I've never been able to use the migration assistant. I just hook up wirelessly or copy to disk or thumb drive and transfer what I want that way.

(2,335 posts)By syncing to this new computer that the phones sees as having an empty iTunes ?
The apple id pulls everything purchased, etc together, no matter where those purchases happened.
Say you purchase a song on an iPhone under your existing ID, that purchase will be available to ALL devices using that ID.
As things migrate to cloud storage, this is a boon. Imagine having to download everything to each device individually.
iTunes will ask if you want to transfer the items on your phone to iTunes.

(577 posts)NOT transfer. The song you purchased as a test will be included, providing you use the same Apple ID. And another ID will NOT have acces to that purchase.

(2,335 posts)before I sync the phone to the new computer? (My homed share is turned on.) Or is itunes match just a waste of money?
My only concern is that songs not bought from itunes don't make it over to the new mac.......

(2,335 posts)I really really don't want to migrate everything. Just the iTunes. And manually install the disc from my audio interface , printer etc
