iPhone question

I am randomly getting an alarm or alert sound on my phone. I don’t have any alarms set, and can’t see any indication of what the sound is alerting me to. It’s a loud bell sound (ding-ding-ding ding-ding). Any ideas? I want to make it stop.

But, have you gone into settings->notifications and looked to make sure they are off for each individual app. Under the app name in the list it should say off if off. If on, it will say one or more of the following: Banners. sounds. Badges. Critical alerts. I don’t think it would be one of the enhanced safety or government alert at the bottom because I think they always come with a banner or message. One might have inadvertently gotten turned on. Also, it’s possible that one app has sound notification on but the banner notification off. I’ve had this happen before and found it confusing. I’m not sure which tone the sound you are describing is. Maybe news flash or popcorn from the classic tones? I hope you figure it out because it sounds annoying.

I went through all of the settings>notifications and turned off sound on several. Turned off badges on most (not even sure what that is). I went through all of the available classic tones and none of them match what I hear on this weird alert. Not sure I will know if the changes I made were effective, because this random sound maybe happens a couple times a week.

I'm guessing you have some app that is trying to notify you of something it thinks is important. Look at the notifications settings (in the Settings Application, under Notifications) and review what apps have notifications enabled... especially "Sounds". You can configure which apps are allowed to bother you with audio or badges or banners.

Oh, it might be web-site notifications, for that look at Settings / Safari / Notifications.

Hope this helps!

Checked all the notifications settings on apps. Most were off, changed a few. Also looked at Safari and notifications not enabled there.

From AI:

If you want to catch the culprit:
- Wait for the sound to happen again.
- Immediately open Settings → Notifications → Most Recent.
- The app that just made noise will be at the top, even if it didn’t show a banner.
This usually solves the mystery.
