UPDATE: Just gonna get a new HD. Thx all! n/t
Running Windows 7 and getting hard disk failure message.
Updates were just automatically downloaded late Tuesday night (I thought I had that disabled) and since then I'm getting a Windows Detects hard disk error (or something like that) message. I've restarted a few times and it always pops up.
Everything is backed up. I ran both scandisk and chkdsk and no errors turned up. Other than the error message, the computer is functioning just fine.
Any suggestions?

(8,084 posts)and install a newer version of windows before restoring your data. XP is no longer supported and you will run into troubles. I looked it up. End of life was April 2014 so microsoft is no longer pushing security updates to it.

It's actually trial-ware but will continue to work after the trial with just a nag screen.
