Liz Truss sends legal letter ordering Starmer to stop saying she crashed economy

No, it couldn't possibly have been the "mini-budget" which you stopped an independent assessment of, sent interest rates rocketing, and for which you sacked your chancellor in a hopeless quest for a scapegoat:

The former prime minister sent a six-page “cease and desist” letter accusing Starmer of harming her reputation and contributing to her losing her South West Norfolk seat in the general election.
...
Truss’s legal letter argued that the market meltdown that followed her disastrous mini-budget in October 2022 could not accurately be described as “a crash of the economy” because it did not involve a fall in GDP or rise in unemployment.

Citing a report by the economist and rightwing commentator Andrew Lilico for Europe Economics, the letter said the economic turmoil was the result of factors over which Truss had “no control”.
...
Less than two weeks after her mini-budget, Truss ditched its central plan to scrap the 45p top rate of income tax, in an attempt to stop the economic meltdown it had created. Within three weeks, she had replaced her chancellor, Kwasi Kwarteng, with Jeremy Hunt, who immediately ditched almost all her economic policies.

Welcome to politics, Liz?

Anything Starmer says in parliament is protected by parliamentary privilege, so I can only assume Truss's lawyers are as incompetent as she is.

If she wants to try to police whatever he says in any other contexts, good luck with that.

That lawyerly letter will have cost her good money!

Also, what the flying chuff is she doing citing Andrew Lilico in her letter? He's an absolutely absurd figure even by right wing standards.

Perhaps she has an American sugar daddy willing to bankroll stupid legal moves - it is a very American, and especially MAGA, tactic. She does now seem to be so embedded in the MAGA world, she makes Farage look like a conscientious constituency MP for Clacton. Her only hope for income is from the USA (however far right they may be economically, UK libertarians know she was incompetent).

And I don't remember Labour leaders threatening to sue the Tories for spending 14 years blaming them for the economic effects of the global banking crisis.
