(26,164 posts)I discovered, relatively recently, thru Ancestry.com, that most of my paternal grandmother's side of the family were born in Ontario, for at least 3 generations - her brother and sister, her parents, and their parents. Everyone but her - she was born in Michigan, in 1896. The probable explanation is that her family was temporarily in Michigan, harvesting crops.
I'm finding some comfort in this while the US is such a mess.
O Canada - will you take me in?

(268 posts)Bone spur boy better be careful. Canada has a reputation for fine fighting men.
They have been our best allies for a long damn time, and would make us pay dearly for every inch of ground, and they will never stop fighting.
The mango Mussolini better leave them alone

(34,856 posts)I spent 20 days in Dublin in the late 90s. Met a local guy there and hung out with him. Every one seemed nice to me, but my friend told me to say I was from Canada.
Living in Detroit Id visit Windsor a lot, so thought I could get away with it, Man, what a difference that made. All at once every one there loved me. Every one wanted to buy me a drink.
