Buffy Sainte-Marie's Order of Canada terminated by governor general

No reason was given but the termination comes after a 2023 CBC investigation raised serious doubts about the singer's claims to Indigenous identity

OTTAWA — Buffy Sainte-Marie’s Order of Canada has been terminated, with history of her ever having been appointed scrubbed online.

Notice was posted on the government’s official publication late Friday that Governor General Mary Simon had cancelled Sainte-Marie’s Order of Canada through an order she signed in early January.

Friday’s posting was signed by the secretary general of the Order of Canada.

She was born in Massachusetts. Her parents were not indigenous people. Her father was of Italian heritage. Her mother was English. She completely fabricated her identity.
The real injustice was what she did to those artists who actually were indigenous people. She took away the opportunity for recognition and awards that they may have earned if she had not cut in front of them and taken up space with her fake identity.
It is a pity. She was gifted a great talent. But she is also a fraud.
