Second death confirmed from Longview packaging plant chemical tank rupture; 8 injured, 9 still missing

A second person has been confirmed dead after a Longview packaging plant containing white liquor ruptured early Tuesday morning. At least eight others, including one firefighter, are injured, while nine individuals remain unaccounted for.

The Longview Fire Department (LFD) said 10 individuals were transported to hospitals — at least eight of them employees — after the tank ruptured at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company Tuesday morning, causing hundreds of thousands of gallons of dangerous chemicals to spill. Several victims suffered chemical burns and inhalation injuries, the fire department reported.

At approximately 7:18 a.m., LFD responded to a hazardous materials incident at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company at 3401 Industrial Way.

Crews are continuing to search the grounds for any additional victims.
