Microsoft plans performance-based layoffs across the company

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) is planning a round of performance-based layoffs, the company confirmed to the Business Journal Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Redmond-based tech giant declined to disclose how many people will be affected or to what extent the layoffs will impact its Puget Sound-region workforce.

The Information, citing a person familiar with the plans, reported the layoffs would affect about 1% of employees companywide, or roughly 2,200 people.

The cuts will hit departments across the company, hitting even its security division, according to Business Insider, which first reported the news.
