TN-HD93: Shelby County state House district has no qualified candidates for 2026 election

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - No one has qualified to run for Tennessee House District 93 ahead of the petition deadline, leaving the Memphis-area seat currently without a candidate on the 2026 ballot.

The district is currently represented by Rep. G.A. Hardaway, Sr., who still intends to run for the seat. The Tennessee House Democratic Caucus said Hardaway failed to qualify because one signature on his petition was deemed invalid, leaving him short of the required threshold of 25 signatures.

Tennessee House District 93 is currently one of 13 state House districts in Shelby County. District 93 covers several Memphis neighborhoods, including Orange Mound, Binghampton, Highland Heights, as well as a section of Cordova.(comptroller.tn.gov)

“The young lady that signed it used an address that is not related to her registration, so on a technicality, he was one signature short,” said Javier Bailey, Hardaway’s legal advisor.
