There are two contentious school board elections pitting crazy against sane.
South Side Beaver, a rural district, pits "Moms for Liberty", the radical rw group behind many school board candidates, is involved with one slate of candidates. The other candidates are mostly incumbent members of the board.

In Blackhawk, a slate of sane candidates is trying to recapture the school board majority, currently 5-4 crazies.

While Blackhawk is less rural than South Side, it still has a significant rural component. Both districts emcompass heavily conservative, republican areas. Democrats generally aren't viable candidates. The choice is between sane Rs and crazy ones.

(86,193 posts)Is May 16 the actual school board election or just the primary?
Deminpenn
(17,580 posts)because PA has closed primaries.
The primary winners very likely will win the general election in November.

(33,083 posts)all over the country. Find out about them! We have them in Northern Illinois. They try to take over school boards and library boards.
Local elections are important. GOTV.

(17,580 posts)what they are, rw lunatics trying to force their own religious beliefs on everyone. And people don't like it.
This is what happened in Dover, PA when creationists took over that school board because voters weren't paying attention. But once they did and went to court to over the creationists trying to take science out of the classroom, the next school board election the creationists were routed and ousted.
Here, the South Side election probably will be close, but the sane Blackhawk group seems to be well-funded, well-organized and have real grass roots support.

(1,654 posts)Start out to look so grass root and spontaneous, but somehow have money and organization and a lot of them aren't even moms. Their agenda is control, not liberty.

https://www.timesonline.com/story/news/education/2023/05/17/unofficial-results-in-for-south-side-area-school-board-primary-other-key-races/70225213007/In the South Side Beaver school board primary, the 5 crazy candidates were the top vote getters in the R primary. In the Dem primary, the 5 sane candidates were the top vote getters. So it will be a crazy vs sane faceoff in the November general election.
In the Blackhawk school board primary, 4 of the 5 sane candidates were the top vote getters. In the Dem primary, all 5 sane candidates won. All 5 would have won the R primary, too, except that one had to run as a write-in. That means there will be one contested seat in November, but my guess is that with the write-in candidate's name appearing on the ballot, he will win. It should also help that D candidates will be listed first because we have a Dem governor.
