Miami County voters to decide on new jail in upcoming election

ROY, Ohio (WDTN) – The Miami County Sheriff and County Commissioners have been dedicating weeks to showing the public the inside of the Miami County Jail in hopes of getting a new one.

Narrow, crowded, and sad were some of the words residents who toured the jail used to describe it. However, to get a new one, it would take voters passing a consumption tax on next week’s ballot.

The jail was built in 1972, and that was the first and last time a security system for cell doors was put in.

“I don’t know if they’ve ever been updated,” said Nate Collett, the assistant jail administrator.
