Great Neck voters to head to the polls in 4 village elections
Residents in four Great Neck-area villages will head to the polls Tuesday, June 16, to vote in local elections. Most races are uncontested, with incumbents seeking additional terms in the villages of Great Neck, Kings Point and Lake Success. Russell Gardens is the only village with contested races, where voters will choose a village justice and two trustees from a field of five candidates.
Russell Gardens voters will choose one village justice and two trustees in a contested race on June 16.
Incumbent Village Justice Edward Goodman is seeking another four-year term and is being challenged by Ronnie Shatzkamer, an associate justice in Manorhaven and former village administrator in Flower Hill. Goodman has served as village justice since 2020 and previously served as village prosecutor. Shatzkamer said her decades of experience in village government and municipal law would bring a unique perspective to the court.
For the two trustee seats, Deputy Mayor Lawrence Chaleff is seeking reelection, while Robin Sherman and Qingtao Shannon Zhou are also running. Chaleff, the only incumbent trustee on the ballot, cited infrastructure improvements and fiscal management as accomplishments during his tenure. Sherman, a retired special education teacher and longtime volunteer, said she hopes to bring a positive voice to village government. Zhou, a relative newcomer to the village, is running on a platform focused on communication, transparency and affordability.
