Marist College in Poughkeepsie has revoked an honorary degree it awarded to former Fox News commentator Bill OReilly, according to a statement posted Sunday on the schools website.
The statement referenced the sexual harassment claims made against OReilly during his time at Fox News and reports that the network paid millions to settle harassment cases against him. OReilly, who was raised in Levittown and now lives in Manhasset, hosted The OReilly Factor from 1996 until his departure from the cable news channel last April.
To many, his reported payments of tens of millions of dollars and dismissal by Fox News lend credibility to the allegations against him, the statement reads. Any form of sexual harassment or abuse is deeply contrary to the values of Marist College.
A representative for OReilly could not immediately be reached for comment.

Marist College, which was founded by Catholic priests, should have looked at his life a little more carefully before bestowing an honorary degree on O'Reilly.
Why did so many groups and institutions give him honors? My son and I left Scouting when our Long Island council honored O'Reilly. By his well-known and documented behavior, he violated nearly all of Scouting's traditions. Of course, most of the parental leaders were Fox News followers. Still, O'Reilly was a poor choice for anyone to recognize.
How many other institutions will
