that goes up a volcanic flow escarpment. Driving east, you go through dark desert until you reach the edge of the escarpment and suddenly there's a carpet of light down below you. It really is a beautiful sight. Flying into town over the mountains after dark is neat, but not nearly as gorgeous as driving down that escarpment into a diamond studded valley.

Loved the old travelogue (Domenici for governor? Really? Glad the state had more sense).

I saw him sing this song on the Marty Stewart show a while back. It was the first time I had heard it and he really wailed on it. It's been a regular in my hot mic repertoire ever since.
