MI-SOS: Michigan Democrats endorse Gilchrist for secretary of state

Michigan Democratic Party members endorsed Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist for secretary of state and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit for attorney general during a convention in Detroit Sunday.

The candidates will be officially nominated at a later convention in August. But the MDP and MIGOP hold early endorsement conventions to give the candidates more time to focus on the general election.

Michigan Republicans endorsed Macomb County Clerk Anthony Forlini for secretary of state and Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd for attorney general during an endorsement convention last month.

Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel said Sunday’s convention was the biggest in the party’s history, with more than 7,000 delegates in attendance.
