MI-AG: Michigan Democrats pick Savit over McDonald for attorney general nominee

Detroit — Michigan Democrats nominated Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit as their candidate for state attorney general Sunday, choosing him for the statewide ballot in November over Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald.

The vote Sunday at a Michigan Democratic Party endorsement convention in Detroit sets up a November election contest between Savit and Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd, the Republican nominee for attorney general.

'We’re on the front line right now," Savit said from the convention stage Sunday. "We’re facing challenges from Washington, D.C. We’re facing challenges from the corrupting influence of money in our politics. But what you see reflected on this stage is a hopeful vision for the future."

The Michigan Democratic Party would not release any of the vote breakdowns associated with Sunday's nominating races.
