MI-SD35: Michigan's 35th Senate District prepares for long-awaited primary election

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Residents of Michigan's 35th Senate District, which includes parts of Midland, Bay, and Saginaw counties, will head to the polls tomorrow for a special primary election.

The seat has been vacant since January 3 of last year, when Kristen McDonald Rivet left to serve in Congress.

Thomas Roy, a Saginaw Township resident, expressed relief that the election is finally taking place, citing concerns about the district's lack of representation in Lansing. "There's 270,000 people that were not represented," he said.

The election will narrow the field of ten candidates to one Republican and one Democrat, who will face off in a May special election.
