The inland valleys (the Big Valley) heat up in the summertime, hot air rises... and cool ocean air rushes through the golden gate and spreads across the bay... which is why you can identify the tourists in San Francisco in July and August... they are the ones wearing T-shirts and shorts, the natives are in layers including a hoodie.
But in October, the inland valley quits heating up so much, which shuts down the prevailing pacific breeze, and for a brief few weeks, the Bay Area can get quite warm.

(35,176 posts)in the NE part of Kanas, high of 43 next Friday supposedly. Crazy weather. We got pretty hot this summer but not for many days and we are still not in a drought here. In fact we are expecting a lot of rain time this next week. I can remember many Halloweens with ice storms and snow. I wonder where we go from here?

Usually we'd have a frost by now.
But yeah, I remember some nasty cold snowy Halloweens as a kid.
And being snowed in at my sister's camp Thanksgiving quite recently.

If the long term Farmers Almanac winter forecast is correct it is going to be a long, cold and deep winter here. I am not looking forward to it at all.
Unusual weather
But OK
All these years and I never knew! My brain started melting long ago!
