"Very unfortunate": Union County election in question after single-error vote

UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) — A Union County election decided by a single vote is now in question after the tie-breaking vote may not be valid.

“It’s just amazing that it came down to just one vote because both people are very well known in the county,” says Union County voter Sharon Omer.

Election night is something the Union County Clerk Garrick Thompson takes seriously. According to Thompson, one person claimed they were given the wrong ballot during the May primary and voted for the eventual winner of the Magistrate District 4 race Ehren Schaffter.

The clerk says the error was not caused by their system but from human error.

Either the vote will be counted illegally, or the voter won't be allowed to have their vote counted at all. MichMan 5 hrs ago #2

The validity of the ballot is still in question, and the clerk says it will be up to the circuit court judge to rule on. He says if the vote is tossed out, it would leave the race at a tie and could be decided by a coin toss between Schaffter and opponent Dakota Jones.

They never said they would be letting the voter re vote using the correct ballot
