WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kan. (KAKE) – State public health officials are calling an ongoing tuberculosis outbreak in northeast Kansas “unprecedented.”

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports 66 active cases of tuberculosis and 79 infections in the Kansas City Metro area in 2024. As of this month, the number of active cases rose to 67.

In a Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare meeting on Tuesday, Deputy Secretary of KDHE Ashley Goss said the department is working collaboratively with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Some of you are aware we have mobilized staff and resources addressing an unprecedented tuberculosis outbreak in one of our counties,” Goss said. “We are working collaboratively with the CDC on that. The CDC remains on the ground with us to support.”

Tuberculosis, commonly known as TB, is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that most often affects the lungs. It spreads through the air when people with TB cough, sneeze or spit.

"Do lungs fully recover from TB?
More chest infections and an inadequate quality of life can persist long after treatment. In about 40% of cases, patients need extra hospitalization for lung disease treatment. Over 40% of TB patients lose their lung capacity post-recovery. This leaves patients with recurrent shortness of breath." Lung scarring, pulmonary fibrosis.

There is a safe vaccine for TB but this is what anti-vaxxing brings.

I believe we will be seeing many more outbreaks of preventable diseases, along with their attendant death & disability,

Some people require learning the hard way and there are even some who would rather die in order to be right.

but no others than that, at least none I'm aware of. Is that one vax life-long?

Geez... this is around the corner from me... it's where I moved from, in fact. I still have friends over there. This is really disconcerting, hitting as close to home as it is.

Has anyone asked trump how many Americans he hopes to kill in his first year back in office? Or was the Pandemic a personal best?
