Two Idaho presidential electors might be replaced for Monday vote
Having a job with the federal government means that two of the four people picked to cast Idaho's electoral votes for Donald Trump could be replaced Monday.
Due to federal law, Republicans Layne Bangerter, of Melba, and Melinda Smyser, of Parma, cannot serve as electors because both are federal employees, according to a story published by the Idaho Statesman. Bangerter works on the staff of U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo, while Smyser is a staffer with U.S. Sen. Jim Risch.
Bangerter and Smyser would have to be replaced in a vote by the state's other two electors before the formal electoral vote, scheduled for noon at the Capitol.
When it comes to members of the Electoral College, the group that represents the states in casting the official votes for president, Article II of the Constitution states "no senator or representative, or person holding an office of trust or profit under the United States, shall be appointed an elector."
