ATLANTA Emergency crews responded to an area of Midtown Atlanta Saturday evening after a traffic crash involving at least 15 people.
Atlanta Police said a "pedal pub," which is a vehicle where several passengers pedal on a large-scale bike while often consuming alcohol, is the root of the cause.
It happened at West Peachtree Street and 14th Street around 6:30 p.m. Part of the road was blocked off from traffic.
The vehicle, which can carry up to 15 passengers, had multiple people on board. As the peddlers were negotiating a turn, it toppled over, according to police.

(31,980 posts)One guy says "it's no different than drinking in a limo"... except in the limo there is some amount of steel between the passengers and the road, even if the limo rolls over. Plus the driver is less likely to be distracted by the passengers.
If I am riding my bicycle on public roads I always wear a helmet. And I would never ride while being even the least bit tipsy.
Insurance rates for the operators of these things is about to go up substantially.

(17,802 posts)There is only one person Steering or using brakes, and they control the vehicle.
What it sounds like is while they made a normal turn, their cg shifted enough to tip the cart.
Maybe it was an uneven road surface. Maybe some fools decided to all lean to one side at the same time.
But it likely wasn't the drivers fault.
