Have you encountered a wild flamingo in Florida?

Jim Mooney (R state legislator) wants to drop the mockingbird as our state bird and replace it with the flamingo.
The mockingbird is endemic to ALL of Florida and has been our state bird for over a century. It's song is so refreshing when I'm working in the yard- it is amazing so much sound and so many themes are presented in a single song.
The only place I've seen flamingos is at Disney World, and maybe SeaWorld.
Ever hear a flamingo sing?

Lots of hawks, eagles, blue and white herons, snowy egrets, and sandhill cranes.

We occasionally have a mockingbird perch atop our chimney in the morning and sing his brains out; the complexity of its song is amazing.

The main reason why a Republican would want to change the state bird is just to be a dick.

Starting with the wildlife refuges. They’re generally not gonna come and perch at your birdfeeder or hang out in your yard.

That said, the state bird issue continues to be a political football. Years ago there was a movement to have the Scrub Jay become our state bird. Then later they put it to the school kids to vote and they chose the Osprey.
