San Benito County sets special election for Supervisor Velazquez's (R) removal

HOLLISTER, Calif. — A special election has been set for June 2 next year to vote on the removal of San Benito County Supervisor Ignacio Velazquez.

Petitioners accuse Velazquez of abuse of power and claim he is a risk to the community, allegations that Velazquez denies.

Recall efforts began when a Hollister-based group cited “growing concerns” over his voting record, public safety priorities, and county finances.

The group, Safer San Benito, with 60 members, shifted focus to Velazquez in August after a separate recall attempt targeting District 2 Supervisor Kollin Kosmicki.
