Influential S.F. LGBTQ organization says its endorsements may have been impacted by fraud

The Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club, a political organization whose endorsements are often sought by San Francisco politicians, said Saturday that its latest wave of endorsements had been affected by potential fraud.

The group said in a statement that it learned this past week that several of its endorsement votes were “compromised and potentially fraudulent,” adding that it “found other irregularities” in its systems. The organization added that the accounts for some of its committees had been deleted.

Club President Jeffrey Kwong stepped down from the organization Friday “for the credibility of the club and endorsed candidates,” the statement said. Kwong did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The club said the affected endorsements were for U.S. senator and five San Francisco races: city attorney, board of education, City College Board, and Propositions F and K, which address deferring police retirement and closing part of the Great Highway to cars to establish a new park, respectively.
