[snip]
In 2015, Democratic Elk Grove Assemblyman Jim Cooper voted for Senate Bill 34, which restricted law enforcement from sharing automated license plate reader (ALPR) data with out-of-state authorities. Now-Sacramento County Sheriff Cooper appears to be doing just that.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) a digital rights group, has sent Cooper a letter requesting that the Sacramento County Sheriffs Office cease sharing ALPR data with out-of-state agencies that could use it to prosecute someone for seeking an abortion. (7,794 posts)To the disruption their mindless decisions will have. The technology to track people's individual interstate commerce is not the same telephone and telegraph system of 50 years ago. The potential for privacy invasion is exponentially more technologically intense and enhanced than 1970. People will be finding themselves in the spotlight and if it goes like it usually does, most won't have a clue why they're getting the knock on their door.
