They are looking at their options... and a tree fell on their neighbors home during the last storm... many many old redwoods and pines were knocked down by high winds... they haven't had power in over a week and it might be another 2 to 4 weeks to get power back. And then the house might easily fall into the creek behind their home. A year ago they tried to line the edge of the creek with large boulders to keep it from the retaining wall... helped but didn't stop the problem.

That story stuck with me.
Story ran not that long ago... last few years.

(8,095 posts)and while a tad bit too far and too high to be personally threatened by the water from storms (hills and trees are another matter!) it is interesting to watch what the various homeowners *on* the banks of the river are doing to their structures. I've been watching more than one large home being raised up on piers, or whatever they're called. I don't mean being built, but just raised. It's kinda fascinating.
