Arkansas Farmers Begin Destroying Their Own Crops!

Dec 2, 2025

The Arkansas farming market is experiencing its most severe downturn in decades, sending shockwaves through the agricultural heartland of America. In this urgent market update, we expose the devastating collapse hitting Arkansas farmers as land values plummet, crop prices crater, and family farms face unprecedented financial pressure. From the rice fields of the Delta to the poultry farms of Northwest Arkansas, agricultural property values are in freefall. Commodity prices have crashed below break-even levels, equipment costs have skyrocketed, and drought conditions are destroying yields across the state. Small and mid-sized farming operations that have survived for generations are now on the brink of bankruptcy.

of voting over and over again for decades for a political party whose policies lead to exactly these consequences! What a world that would be! But alas... instead we have a world of "finding out."

But I encourage us to reach out to these folks with empathy and a willingness to explain that we have more that binds us than tears us apart- and there are those who want to use the few divisions to weaken our resolve.

We need some from the other side to crosss overr to make us big enough to take on MAGA. Don't believe the cliche's. Many of these folks can be reached. I live in deep red north Georgia and I can tell there is a slow change, but if we belittle and dberatee these people we will not benefit from their change of hearrt.

Being a farmer it's very hurtful to read the comments here that are so lacking in basic human compassion. I gave up trying to persuade here when it comes to farmers.

Posting about farmer suicides went mostly unnoticed.

I appreciate your suggestions. Stay encouraged, Climate Crusader.

wives would go out to the barn and find their husbands had hung themselves etc. Life insurance to try to leave their wives with something to live on after the farm got foreclosed. Some because of a sense of having failed the family generations before them.

I come from this background and know how deep and dire these circumstances are.

One of the reasons is the destruction of USAID, When Trump allowed Musk to dismantle USAID, it rippled throughout all the farms across the US. The estimated loss is about $2 billion.
Now lets take away hundreds of thousands of immigrant farm workers who won't be there to help plant, tend, and harvest the crops.

https://www.usglc.org/media/2025/03/Assistance-Cuts-Hurt-Our-Economy.pdf

Farms have traditionally been low profit margin businesses. Now they're no profit businesses, which means bankruptcy for many thousands of farms across the US.
Add to that all the businesses that rely on farmers for their profits, and you can see the scope this has for agricultural states. It's a disaster that's only going to get worse.

It's farmageddon!

The republicans want to shake America up, tear a lot down, and rebuild it their way.
The problem is if you shake too hard, there could be a lot of unintended consequences.
If you threaten the survival of too many people, they look for ways to fight back. That could happen. If the 2028 election shows enough progress back toward reasonable, responsible, caring government, we may find our way out of this mess without blood in the streets.
We need to decide whether we want to rely on each other, or some dictatorial government; whether we want to embrace the ideals we've always claimed we had, or leave it all in the hands of people who are only interested in money, power, and control.
Ultimately it depends on us.

Any MAGA that is having serious $ issues, they’re reaping (pun intended) what they sow. Farmers been voting Repug since forever.

Why do you think the Oz Scarecrow says about his stuffing being ripped out by the Flying Monkeys, "Oh, no. I just keep picking it up and putting it back in again”.

Effed by monied interests, The Scarecrow keeps taking a beating over and over, and he does that because he hasn’t any brains.

But then, who's Dorothy in this scenario?
She was just a farm girl in the book and movie. Now she's got to be so much more.
Ah! She's the one who's woke. She wakes up at the end, and see's the characters in her dream as the real people they actually are.

17. Also of note about the land values is that
Fri Dec 5, 2025, 02:19 PM

those values are used when determining sufficient collateral for lenders to finance equipment etc. As happened in the late '70's and into the '80's when those values fall lenders can come around demanding that you "pay down your amount financed" so that it will fit with the decreased collateral value. The likelihood that someone has a huge chunk of cash sitting around to reduce the loan balance is fantasy and so the lenders go for repossession. Then the lender sells the equipment for whatever they can get and the balance of what is still owed goes as collectible debt against the remaining assets of the farm. This results in lots of foreclosures on farms as it did then.
