Amendment would fully abolish slavery in Arkansas by 2027

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) An amendment recently filed ahead of the Arkansas legislative session seeks to fully abolish slavery in the Natural State.
HJR1002 was officially filed on Nov. 20 by Rep. Jay Richardson (D-Fort Smith) and Sen. Reginald Murdock (D-Marianna). It is co-sponsored by Rep. Andrew Collins (D-Little Rock), Rep. Fred Allen (D-Little Rock), Rep. Lincoln Barnett (D-Forrest City), Rep. Denise Jones Ennett (D-Little Rock), Rep. Kenneth B. Ferguson (D-Pine Bluff), Rep. Jessie McGruder (D-Marion), Rep. Tara Shephard (D-Little Rock), Rep. Joy Springer (D-Little Rock) and Sen. Jamie Scott (D-North Little Rock).
The amendment says the Arkansas Constitution is the moral and legal foundation of our state, abolishing all forms of slavery in the Arkansas Constitution represents the fundamental values held by citizens of Arkansas.
