That is less than 1%. Are you sure the death numbers are not higher?

(13,265 posts)2. Deaths today reflect case #s from 2-5 weeks ago
when case #s were lower. In addition, NYT said today that older people are still sheltering ( I certainly am) and the newer cases are largely among younger people, who suffer fewer fatalities.
That said, you can always check my numbers and see many more statistics on the link I always supply.

and you are right deaths are a lagging number. We should see spikes in death numbers soon.
Unless the doctors have now figured out how to help the patients recover.
