Ok, I do watch ABC nightly news......and it just really bugs me at the end they usually have
an interesting or heart warming story that lasts for approximately 30 seconds…..all the folks say hello David, then David breaks in and does some talking and the person might get to say a few words and David then finishes up the story. End of broadcast. 
Or is it just me…….

The professional announcer or journalist tells 90% of the story, and the person they're talking about is standing right there next to them. The person who's being "interviewed" gets one sentence out, and then the journalist grabs it back again and finishes the story. It's a concerted effort to prevent the interviewee from saying something that could (possibly) embarrass the news channel.
That's my guess, but I could be wrong.
