I had a choice between this and the 85mm f/1.8 and I went with the 85, despite the excellence of this lens.
I would buy one used but I do have a proliferation of lenses here.
It would be fun to compare this with the 100mm series-E (I got one used) and the 85.
I'll round up some reviews and diagrams (I love lens diagrams ... I was an optical engineer, and even wrote a little program to draw lens diagrams from the spec's) just for fun.
Happy photo-shooting with this great lens.
