For reasons, I had to leave home in this lethal heat, but that means I was able to take my new lens for a walk
nothing spectacular, ir's very hard to improvise with an ultrawide, but there's a few I like

(5,432 posts)They were close together, and close to me that 100-plus degree field of view was critical. I think I love this lens

(126 posts)Yes, that's it mesmerizing
The angles of the buildings
The desire to read that silly sign
Are those blood stains on the sidewalk
The whole durn photo is tweaking my brain

(5,432 posts)aside from the bloodstain question; those are just normal skid marks/stains on the concrete I'm genuinely not sure what you're thinking

Simply saying I really appreciate your work.
The red stains were just a silly mental distraction (from me), as I was searching for something odd to describe. After some reasoning I think it was your use of that 10mm lens.
All I can say is "your photos seem stretched" but in a most-professional manner. Actually, I really cannot fully describe what I am sensing when viewing your photos. It's me and not your photos. I would add that there appears to be a centering (invisible spot) in each image, with the left and right sides seemingly splayed-out wider to the edges of each photo.
To conclude, each photo is excellent, and the entire ensemble is worthy of framing and displaying. Thank you, sir pball.
~~~~~ It's Perspective ~~~~~
A change in perspective: That's what I was seeing in your photos but could not fully comprehend nor could I describe (to you).
So after a good bit of time, I checked with the Internet regarding the magical properties of a 10mm lens, and guess what...
The 10mm lens is a device capable of producing visually striking imagery by distorting perspective to tell dramatic stories.
Its biggest secret is proximity: tiny foreground subjects can be magnified to massive sizes, while background details are stretched to create immense depth.
(5,432 posts)And I was going to (respectfully and nicely) explain why you see these shots as "stretched", but you went and did my work for me
I've always had an eye for wide angle, if I wasn't confident that I could use this lens I wouldn't have bought it. Ultrawide is a little tricky, but it can pay off so well. Just wait till I get to the spots I have planned to shoot this glass
(5,432 posts)I actually really like ultrawide work, I just haven't ever had a chance to do it outside of my phone I have ideas and I'm excited!!
(35,872 posts)The signs are supposedly on timers. I would like to be close enough to a place with one (and a deli) to test that statement, but I haven't seen an electronic crosswalk sign in years.
I'm glad you're enjoying your kit!
(40,990 posts)... and they stop traffic in all directions so pedestrians can cross diagonally if they choose.
If the buttons are not pressed It's all straight-through traffic and left turn signals. The "don't walk" signs remain lit in all directions.
This is a deliberate means of discouraging cross-town traffic on Main Street when pedestrians are present.
(27,454 posts)I was going to respond to your earlier post, since my 14mm full-frame lens is roughly the same field of view.
And there's nothing but country here. So, I can vouch for sunrises and sunsets from this ridge (some 140 degrees clear on each side), rock formations with near zero-space beneath them to take pix ,various trees, mostly manzanita, shot from very close up, giving a great perspective, and so on. Hint: the bases of Manzanitas are often rich red, especially in evening sun. I've got a grove of them up here. Some just outside the home.
When I visited the SF Bay area, there were ocean and marina shots that worked very well. I got one pic that spanned Oakland, the Bay Bridge, San Francisco and a bit of the Golden Gate into Marin. And some crazy ocean sunsets, as well.
The widest I shot in cities previously, was 24mm. And it gave some real nice perspective on visually busy San Francisco streets.
I was totally impressed by the 14mm pix in the Nikon blurb for the 14-30 zoom lens. Notice the city photos.
Some of mine later.
(5,432 posts)Not "country" as such, but Rock Creek is a very isolated, rocky creek flowing through a lovely wooded valley. I even bought a 9-stop ND filter that should tell you something about what I have in mind.
Hope for clouds!!
