Red Sky at Night, Sailor's Delight

And delightful for passengers and crew on our Planetary Ship as well, even if not mariners and the sky-watcher is far from the sea.
This pink seashell was found in the sky over Joshua Tree National Park, California, US by Kathleen Seacat (Member 54,760), a patch of Altocumulus producing virga catching the last light of the evening Sun.

Kathleen wondered if there might also be fossil seashells on the ground beneath her feet too, noting that ‘this was part of the Farallon Plate under the Pacific Ocean 200 million years ago’.

Although, as Kathleen pointed out, there might well be seashells on the solidified seafloor beneath her feet.

We were fortunate in having been to Joshua Tree a few years ago. Truly a magical bit of the earth.
