(18,455 posts)Looks like yours may be telescopic.
Maybe not - the claw mechanism runs down that tube - being telescopic would gum up the claw armature.

(7,950 posts)a couple of folks mentioned Harbor Freight which is advertising an in-store grabber tool like mine today thru June 12th (I think) for two dollars. If you decide to purchase one, look for a 36 inch grabber tool. Good Luck! It's a handy tool to have. Beats the heck out of having to reach so far down!
Thanks!

(10,863 posts)My bed is in a corner under wrap around windows and when something falls behind it I can use these to grab stuff. I can't move my bed, it's waaaaay too heavy. It's been great for reaching up high as well. I won't reach for anything breakable but I can pull it forward from the back if it's in one of my deep cupboards.

Never picked up a dropped pill and I have dropped plenty. I blame it on pill bottles. Could not be me.

(1,569 posts)Use mine regularly for picking up pone cones .etc. think I might have trouble pick in up some so small, though. As I have to get Whithin 2 inches to see it. Still a damn handy tool

(7,950 posts)I stood still and wrapped the grabbers on either side of the small pill. Darned if it didn't work like it's supposed to! Thank You 3auld6phart!

(13,431 posts)The one I bought is typically used in warehouses to grab products off of high shelves. I got it because a woodpecker had made holes in the outside corner post of the siding at the top of the second floor that I couldn't reach with a ladder so I tried using the grabber to put wood putty in the holes but it was very awkward holding it at the top of the ladder. So I taped the plastic putty knife to the pincers, mixed up a clump of putty, set it on the putty knife and managed to press it into the hole from 6-feet below. I was actually able to smooth the repair with the putty knife. This was all very desperate because I wanted to make sure the hole was filled before winter but in retrospect I'm surprised it all worked.

(7,950 posts)the grabbers arms on either side of the small pill and by golly it worked! These days it is easier to get down than to get back up! Did you order a pink grabber? Thanks!

(348 posts)I use these all over the house. I have bought from the dollar tree one (not a lot of grip) up to a $20 one. Lots of places sell them. I pick up clothes off the floor, cat toys around the house, things I drop, my hair clips which i toss off at bedtime, and so many other uses!! If you have trouble bending over, these are a must have!

(18,745 posts)Three from various (redacted) hardware stores, and a little one from the Japanese Daiso store chain. (Cheap!)
The largest is for outdoor stuff.
These are great for seniors, and for anyone fishing stuff behind the bed headboard, dressers and washing machine.
Of course, being senior, one has been missing for three days. Hmmmmmm.
I supplement these with telescoping magnets and a picker-upper (below)
From this link.

Also there, the most useful pole pruner. I use it on anything small enough. Next, the loppers (great for your biceps) and then the chain saws.

(4,905 posts)after she passed I grabbed them both. I use one in the laundry room to reach socks in the back of the dryer and anything that falls behind the washer. One came in handy when some mail fell in the flower bed and I didn’t want to go in the rain to get it; I could reach it from the porch. I’m impressed you picked up a pill with yours, GM.
George McGovern
(7,950 posts)Especially extending from the porch in the rain! That was quite clever of you!
Thanks for your kind comment re: my pill pick—up. I didn't know if it would work, but the grabber was better than risking falling down. It took a couple of tries, but I set the grabbers straight down on the floor on both sides of the pill, squeezed gently but firmly, and sonuvagun it worked!
