. . . before we knew what a set list was. More like a handful of chords to bang out in a hopefully recognizable manner, all while trying to impress the next girlfriend.

I agree, unexplainable. The last one, at least, had a bit of structure, unlike the first endlessly droning E E D A — gimmee a "G" indeed.
