She just shows up out of the blue, collapses, and we never see her again. The film is sort of a lovely mess and I think reviewers savaged it on release. I've seen it several times, just to try to figure it out, and its narrative is, well, quite loose.

After checking Wikipedia, turns out it wasn't savaged at all. Maybe I should rewatch it.
