What's special is the opening couple of minutes of Robbie Robertson talking about Levon Helm. Pretty powerful monologue.

Virgil Caine is a southern dirt farmer who had no economic stake in the Civil War. However, he lost his brother in battle and was himself left destitute. The little guy is compelled to fight an oligarch's battle and barely survives when the victors come in to take the spoils. A fictitious story, but one that is oft-repeated in virtually every war ever fought.
