Am I the only one that thinks soccer is boring?

I have never liked soccer. To me it is a very boring game to watch. It is like only two minutes of excitement in the entire game and that is only if you are lucky.

When my sons were very little they played soccer because the only skill it took was running and kicking. As soon as they started to develop more athletic skills they played other sports.

I can't get excited about the World Cup.

I know it is getting more popular but to me Soccer will never be America's game.

Baseball, football and golf are my sports interests.

That, in itself, makes it beautiful. But Fox are doing their damndest to enshittify it like everything else.
If there are haters, I suppose they’re Americans. It’s in character. Karens need not reply.

But in the current era, I get a couple of hours of relief watching the rules-based events and demonstrations of good sportsmanship among players on opposite teams. It helps to have the person watching it with me explain what the heck the players are doing.

Adding an intangible number of minutes at the end of regulation leads to anti-climactic endings.
They just added six minutes to the England-Croatia game. Who can predict that in advance?

Home runs, base stealing, close plays, great pitching, RBIs, etc.

To me the typical soccer game has excitement measured in a few seconds of the total game.

about the fans from around the world and their impressions of us.

Those people are having a blast too. The Dutch have a huge orange bus that they shipped over to travel around in, and they fill their section of the stadium with bright orange shirts.
The Algerian team was adopted by Lawrence Kansas. The KU marching bank learned the Algerian National anthem and played it for them at their first practice. The players in turn held a clinic for kids in the area.

Tonight I watched a tour of the stadiums and currently they are interviewing fans in Texas.
The Scottish team went to Fenway and marched a humongeous crowd into Fenway park led by a large contingent of bagpipers.

Also not really a sports fan, but these videos have been so uplifting for me... and with the World Cup coming right on the heels of the Knicks win... it's been more than a week of JOY! I really needed to see our country looking joyful.

The Spokane paper, which I print, was running all these really good stories about Egypt - not just the team but the nation - and the city was happy they were there. The only cringeworthy part was their advertising department sold sponsorship to a craft brewery. Uhh...guys...you realize Egypt is a majority-Muslim nation?

The main sports that people follow, I find boring - football, baseball, golf...I used to follow show jumping but left it for a decade or so and when I returned to watching it, I was less interested. It was far more fascinating to watch when I was riding, but it's just not as interesting as it used to be. Different countries had different breeds of horses and different riding styles - now it's been streamlined and there's very little variety.

I might watch the Olympics when it comes on, both summer and winter, or a big horse race but overall - following and watching sports just isn't my thing.

Soccer doesn't have the free boxing matches you get to enjoy at hockey games.

I have occasionally thought NASCAR needs to buy a portable boxing ring to solve on-track disputes.

Especially in the US.

If everyone in the US actually thought differently, the MLS etc would have much higher revenues and more air time, despite historical contingencies and inertia and so forth regarding other sports leagues.

How a soccer game works:

Ten people run down the field kicking a ball until they get to where they can try to kick it into a goal. When they try, the person standing in the goal catches it and throws it back onto the field. Ten other people then run to the other end of the field kicking the ball so someone else can catch it and throw it back. After ninety minutes of this the two teams have a penalty kick shootout to decide who won the game.

The World Championship of Paint Drying is more fun to watch.

No sir, give me a football game any day over this. At least people occasionally score in those.
