Nothing quite like starting my day at 5:30 with a sump pump emergency

I heard the back up pump alarm and headed down to find a full sump crock, but NOT overflowing. The float on the pump has become, well, unreliable. It works most of the time but I have to remember to check on it. There's a new pump ready to install so I'm just waiting for someone to find the time to help me.

Until that happens, I'll be doing a LOT of stair climbing to check on it because we are in for some thunderstorms over the next few days.

And now Gryff wants to play fetch.

The first one I bought was too tall, the hole I guess is rather shallow. So I discovered that on some websites you can look at the manual and find out about details and dimensions. I think it was a Menards website.

Sometimes these outlets that are exposed to considerable humidity near a pump or well sump do not work because the connections corrode. I replaced a sump pump because it appeared to fail during an extreme weather event (10 inches of rain in 24 hrs). It turns out the pump was fine and the outlet was the problem (also check the circuit breaker).
