(42,377 posts)We're not supposed to have 'favorite' children, but our second cat was clearly the one who became dearest to me. She only lived about 10 years, and we're not sure what she died from (vet. medicine was a long way from what it is today). I still miss her, and sometimes feel like I'm "cheating" with other cats.
She was a gray tabby, too.

My "Baby Girl" was with me for 17 years. She passed in 2024.
Found as an abandon kitten in my driveway. She was joy in my life. Took me a year to get over her passing. But she is always with me even though I adopted two 5 year olds last year.
Peace be with you and know Scoutie will always be with you.

(1,292 posts)Im sure you gave Scoutie a good life. His leaving will make your home feel empty and there will be a hole left in your heart where he resided, until when the time is right the cat distribution system will send you another fur kid to fill it up again.

(428 posts)I am so, so sorry, sakabatou. We just lost my soul cat, Bellatrix, in March at age 18. I know she'll be there to meet your baby. Sending love, light, understanding and hugs.

(6,042 posts)Especially that you had to make the decision. Do remember there is no informed consent with Veterinary care so it is often wise to spare possibly unproductive trauma.

Thank you for giving Scoutie a home and safety. (From a cat rescuer).
