not a big fan of Westerns in general though

the dawn of a new century with aging actors. One can find stories of the old gunslingers living out their final years in cities shunning the limelight of their pasts.

The frank brutality and survival realities was captivating……….

I loved James Garner as Bret Maverick. He had a way of making his character likeable.

Loved all the characters, especially Hoss.

Hombre (Paul Newman in the title role) was tough to watch but worth it.

Rich lady on the coach: “The Indians are savages - they eat dogs.”

Newman: “You ever been hungry lady? And I don’t mean ‘ready for dinner’. You’d eat dog, and you’d fight for the bones.”

Based on a book by Elmore Leonard.

When I was a young girl, I loved Lassie. I would always cry at the end when Lassie held up her paw. I can hear the music in my head now.

I don't know if that qualifies, though.

I still find myself quoting Kilmer's Doc Holliday all the time.

Little Big Man is my favorite western of all time.
Others I've watched several times Cat Ballou, Blazing Saddles, Jeremiah Johnson...

As for TV, The Wild, Wild West, Kung Fu, Gun Smoke, The Lone Ranger...

I love old 1930s and 1940s B westerns.

The original Hopalong Cassidy hard, rough dude with a propensity to swear, and the only thing he had in common with William Boyd’s Hopalong was their shared ethics. I often wish Mulford's original Hopalong Cassidy was made into a feature length film.

Because of the supernatural spirit, the character of The West was transformed from male brutality to female nurturing and domestication.

I absolutely loved the book. That was one of those books where I got to the last page and said “wait, what? That’s it? Does the story really have to end?”

I’m not much of a westerns fan, but my favs in that genre would have to be Unforgiven and High Plains Drifter.

The movie was shot in my home town of Brittania Beach. British Columbia . I always enjoy watching it for the great performances and the scenery.
