I remember this day fondly. My pup is pushing age 15 so long walks are out of the question, but...

This was some years ago. I remembered we walked about 4 miles, and then sat on a swing by the river for 2 hours. He was content...just swinging and watching the river flow. I was content too.

Kenneth Brakke..he was kind enough to help me with some programming circa 2014-2015.
Seems so long back.

He is intimidatingly bright since apparently he translates Plato’s works into english in addition to programming Surface Evolver, though the version of his page I see seems vandalized?

Hi DUers, can you tell me if you see this?
https://kenbrakke.com/
There is no way Prof Brakke would type it as Plateau rather than Plato.

There is even this site that I saw recently which I cannot log onto: en.democraticunderground or something.
My version of Wikipedia and the web is fucked up.

I glanced at it briefly and assumed it was a reference to Plato’s Republic. I have never heard of Plateau.
That would be scary if Prof Brakke’s page was vandalized.
A few years ago a page on a site that had a fascinating piece on this crackpot Nick Land in umelec (?) magazine was vandalized.

And this idiotic guy -a true candidate for the Darwin Awards like many I have met over the years - had posted a picture of himself grinning into a mirror. Probably a hacker thing.

What kind of idiot puts himself on display when doing something stupid beats me. The Jan 6 guys did it. My street is filled with the Indian version of those guys. They will learn the hard way now.

This isn’t the US.

Most of us are so worried about seeming stupid we choose to avoid the limelight, correctly thinking that almost no human ever deserves the limelight, least of all those who seek it. Actual, respectable artists like Christian Bale see fame as a torturous and profession-killing part of being an artist.

I never bought that stuff “Do not be afraid to be stupid!”. Please feel free to bring back shame over making a virtue of putting your bowel movements, bodily fluids etc on display. I don’t trust people who like attention. A quiet gated but grassroots community like DU is another matter. Even if something is on the web, humans understand the difference intuitively is my hope. What else can push back the Idiocracy?

My attention is complete shit by now and I am worried based on several very real problems. I was worried I would seem like a fellow traveller with “targeted individuals” or falsely labelled neurotic for pointing out an ott failure of regulation on a staggering scale, whose sheer magnitude makes it unviable.

I could tell that the river was smaller than the Ohio, but the rolling hills and fall foliage are very close to what I get to enjoy. River water is in my veins, when I retired from the AF, I came back to my tiny little river village because it is just too much a part of me. It makes me smile that others get to enjoy that kind of experience.

My border collie is also 15. I got her from a shelter over twelve years ago. I always took her with me to run every day, and to walk a mile after dinner. She still wants to go everywhere with me and my 2-yo mutt, so for the last couple years, the morning "run" has been very slow as she can't really do more than walk.

But she seems to feel better when I keep her moving, than if she just lays around doing nothing.

Dogs are great, it's so hard to see them decline.

For years, we were part of a transport team that rescued border collies.

Some were even transported from Hurricane Katrina to northern states.

Each driver would drive maybe 100 miles or so to hand the dogs off to another transporter on the transport team, until the dogs finally reached their destination.

We did this for about 10 years or so.
