That is, white cake with chocolate icing.

You can’t get them in Canada (at least not in BC) despite a Tim Hortons on every corner.

I get a dozen every time I’m in Bellingham on the way home from visiting my son in Portland.

Before I retired, one of the attorneys would always bring in paczki from Hamtramck for the whole office on Fat Tuesday. I always looked forward to it every year. I would get so anxious waiting when he came in late! Where's my damn paczki?

I like fruit filling as well as crème filling. Especially Bavarian crème.

I would always sneak a couple of paczkis to bring home for my mother and grandmother when I was living with them.

being made. and getting a fresh , warm box of glazed donuts. Now only place to get them is Wal Mart. No comparison.

There is no where on my island to get one that ticks my boxes if I can even find one at all, so I make them on occasion for a reward.

My second favorite is Angel Cream. Our family does Dunkin every Sunday after church. Ordering an Angel Cream is like playing Russian Roulette though. You never know if it's actually angel creme or if it's filled with Boston cream filling so I'll usually just go ahead and order a red jelly doughnut.

Does anybody remember a chain called "Mister Donut"? We haven't had one in town for ages, but that was the only place I was ever able to find the black raspberry filled ones. That was a dad/daughter special outing when I was growing up. You used to be able to watch them make donuts through an observation window.

When in HS, guys waited until junior year to have access to the cafeteria before first bell.
They made homemade cake donuts, with a sprinkling of cinnamon/sugar.
Still hot.
Those were GREAT!

followed closely by chocolate frosted. But really, any donut will do.

back to eastern MA, one of the first things I do is get two crullers and coffee!

Only available during Lent. The rest of the time my favorite is creme filled, but it doesn't hold a candle to a creme filled paczki.

I think maybe the short time of availability has something to do with why I love it so much. Well, that and the fact that they're just so damn good! Yum!

You lucky girl! My grandmother was Polish but she never made paczki. In fact, as a child, I never even heard of it. It wasn't a big thing like it is now.

Eastern European foods are similar.

Glazed and so fresh they're still warm. YUmmmmmmmmmm!!
