After the snowplow made a huge pile at the end of the street, we’d start digging tunnels and building ramparts. Followed by epic snowball invasions.

After the plows went by, we'd build twin forts on either side of the drive... and tunnels if there was that much snow.

Especially with snowballs 😏

I grew up in Chicago not too far from Humboldt Park which had a great sledding hill
where you ended up on the frozen lagoon after going between two huge trees.

Sledders can also take in lakeside views and enjoy a short walk to the waterfront.

Over on the west side, Humboldt Park boasts a sledding hill of its own known as “Bunker Hill”. Snow lovers can hit the slope and take a scenic stroll around the nearby lagoon.

Growing up in Texas I would have LOVED making a snow angel or just having snow at all, esp. at Christmas. I felt deprived...

I dabbled in sledding.

One snow angel was all it took for me to be over with them, gettin' snow all over your back & down your pants if your shirt & coat hiked up while you were making the wings. Sledding is fun but there weren't a lot of hills in my area.

During the Blizzard of 1977, the snow fell so deeply that we were able to construct a snow fort large enough to crawl around inside. We laid some plywood planking over the top, and piled more snow on for insulation. Great place to hang out with friends on a snowy day.

I might add building a snow fort.
But, really wintertime was about basketball & bowling, mostly because they were played indoors!

Hard work, but good money.

Being raised out in the country, we did not have others to have snowball fights with.

Fortunately, we had ice and one can sled on ice... it's more like sliding, but it worked.

There was no steering when one slid on ice!

(We did not care...).
