(40,100 posts)11. I watched the first 1/2 hour of the PBS special
this morning. Early they show him in front of his childhood home, and he made the comment that he aged better than the house he grew up in. There was a push to save the house, but the house was torn down a few years ago.
Dick, Jerry Van Dyke, Donald O'Connor, and Gene Hackman all came back to Danville over the years to raise money to restore the Fischer theater. Dick worked there as an usher back in his high-school years.

I never cared for the cult of personalities, but Dick Van Dyke has shown what a truly good person can do. (I'm sure he's had his share of faults - like every one of us.)

Hard to get my brain around that one. One of the very best ever.
