My dad had roses. They bloomed all summer long if you cut just above a five leaf joint. Ottawa winters were colder then and some of the bushes often didn't make it through the winter so he would buy a few rose bushes every spring. I never new what colours would bloom as they were random colours. The kitchen table smelt sublime.
